Q. Where are SanPly and SanFoot products used?
SanFoot: SanFoot flexible Wood Wallcovering is most commonly used as an interior wall / ceiling covering and column wraps.
SanPly: Among the many uses for SanPly-3 and SanPly-4 products, some include fine custom furniture, wrapping for moulding and fire-rated steel doors, auto dashboards, aircraft and yacht interiors.
Q. What makes SanFoot and SanPly products so unique?
SanFoot: Five layers! SanFoot’s composition includes five layers to assure flexibity, stability and easy installation: “AA” architectural-grade veneer, paper, foil, a stripple glue barrier, and a paper backer.
SanPly: Multiple layer composition (Four layers in SanPly-4 and three in SanPly-3) to assure maximum flexibility and easy application.
Q. Are these products fire rated?
SanFoot: Yes, SanFoot carries a Class “A” Fire rating.
SanPly: Yes, SanPly carries a Class “B” Fire rating.
Q. What are the sheet sizes?
SanFoot: The standard size sheet for SanFoot is 3’ x 9’. Other sizes are available by special order.
SanPly: SanPly sheets come in 4’ x 8’ and 4’ x 10’ standard sizes. Other sizes are available by special order.
Q. What are the best methods for cutting SanFoot and SanPly?
SanFoot: Use of a razor / utility knife is recommended.
SanPly: Use of a razor / utility knife is recommended. A router / trim router can be used after application to the substrate.
Application And Adhesives
Q. To what substrates can SanPly and SanFoot be applied?
SanFoot: The most common are drywall and plaster, but SanFoot can be applied to other surfaces too. When in doubt, consult your SanFoot distributor or email Jacaranda for advice.
SanPly: MDF board leads the list. Other substrates include plywood, most metals, PVC tube and pipe, and so on. Again, when in doubt, consult your SanPly distributor or email Jacaranda for advice.
Q. What kind of adhesives can I use?
SanFoot: Heavy duty clay-based vinyl wallpaper adhesive, such as Shur-Stik 111.
SanPly: Which adhesive you use will almost entirely depend upon your preference. Sanply products can be adhered using PVA, urea resin and both water and solvent base contact adhesives. Be sure to follow manufacturer’s instructions and recommended procedures for the product you choose.
Finishing
Q. Which sanding methods should I use with these products?
SanFoot: SanFoot comes from the factory pre-sanded and pre-finished with two coats of urethane.
SanPly: SanPly comes from the factory pre-sanded to 220 grit. If desired, MINIMUM sanding can be done with 280 grit and finer. NOTE: If it becomes necessary to clean a soiled area of the veneer, first try cleaning the area with denatured alcohol and a lint-free rag.
Q. What finishes can I use with SanFoot and SanPly?
SanFoot: SanFoot comes pre-finished from the factory.
SanPly: All SanPly products work very well with any finishing products normally applied to wood. These include lacquer, pre-cat lacquer, varnish, conversion varnish, polyurethane, polyester, epoxy and UV coatings.
